LECTURE SERIES
California’s Central Coast maritime history is rich with tales
and amazing individuals. One of the goals of the Education Department
is to bring this history to life in and engaging and exciting manner.
This has been accomplished through the monthly evening lecture series.
Guest lecturers come from a variety of different backgrounds to give
presentations on subjects such as Santa Barbara’s maritime history,
shipwrecks in the Santa Barbara Channel, marine wildlife, and more.
Additionally, the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is excited to host the
Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary
lecture series, From Shore to Sea for the 2007 season. These lectures
take place at the Museum’s Munger Theater on the second Tuesday
of the month at 7 pm and are presented free to the public.

information.
BOATING EDUCATION
Through exciting, educational, and practical courses the Maritime Museum’s
adult education program is striving to foster an appreciation of the
sea while simultaneously teaching the skills and knowledge to enjoy
the maritime environment. To date, adult education classes have covered
topics, which include celestial navigation, cruising skills for the
Channel Islands, coastal navigation, and how to buy the best boat.

BOOK CLUB
The Maritime Museum book club is a year round discussion group. At the
beginning of each year, the book club and education department brainstorm
and compile a list of different maritime themed novels to discuss throughout
the year. Each month a different book dealing with maritime history
(fact or fiction) is highlighted, read, and then discussed. Please come
and join us in this fun way to learn and share in a group setting. The
book club meets every second Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
