EXHIBITS
Ranger
The
42-foot flagship of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum was built
in 1917 and was the first private sport fishing boat made on the
West Coast. It played a major role in the early popularity and growth
of sport fishing down the coast of Southern California and into
Baja California and was the flagship for the Catalina Island Tuna
Club, a competitive group of sport fishing enthusiasts. In its glory
days, Ranger set many records, two of which still stand today for
tuna and broad-bill swordfish.

Sea
Mews Sailboat
The 14-foot Sea Mew, David T. Nidever,
is docked in front of the museum, and joins the museum's other floating
exhibit, the 1917 sport fishing vessel Ranger. Lovingly restored
by volunteers, this circa 1916 sailboat was once part of a fleet
of at least twenty Sea Mews at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club, and
is part of the Museum's burgeoning sailing education program.
