Self-Guided
Tours
During self-guided tours, groups are encouraged to use the treasure
map activity sheets available at the Museum admission desk. These treasure
maps are designed to lead students through the Museum’s exhibits
with a comprehensive collection of thought-provoking questions to guide
them. On completion of the treasure map, participants can select a piece
of pirate loot from the Museum’s treasure chest.
Happy hunting!
Docent-Guided Tours
Docent guided tours of the museum present the richness of the Central
Coast’s maritime history while increasing students’ awareness
of the local fishing industry, encouraging an appreciation of the diverse
marine life in the Santa Barbara Channel and stimulating an interest
in the environmental issues concerning the earth’s oceans.
During the tour, docents engage students in active viewing and discussion
of topics relating to the Museum’s exhibits and maritime history.
Reservations for docent guided tours must be made at least two weeks
in advance of your planned visit. Tours typically require 60 minutes
but can be adapted to fit needs of the group.
With all our programs and tours, the Museum strives to meet the educational
goals and learning needs of your class. We will tailor your program
to the age level, learning styles and curriculum connections of your
group. Additionally, guided tours can be combined with a diving deeper
workshop, harbor tour and/or sea song sing-a-long.
