SBMM Sea Festival
Celebrating Tall Ships and Surfing!

Location: Santa Barbara Maritime Museum & Harbor

Santa Barbara’s rich maritime history comes to life during the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum’s annual Sea Festival on Saturday and Sunday April 12th and 13th from 10am to 5pm. With the return of Spirit of Dana Point – an 18th century 118-foot privateer, visitors can experience the era of tall ships. Additionally, the Maritime Museum proudly celebrates the opening of its newest permanent exhibit, The Marilyn S. Tennity Surfing Exhibit, highlighting local surfers, surf spots, and the surfing innovators who influenced the sport through competitions, film, art and photography, board design, and surf equipment. This fun-filled weekend of dockside and Museum activities features performers in period costume, Surfing Exhibit ribbon cutting, docent-guided tours, totally tubular crafts, sea & surf sing-a-longs, storytelling, Irish music from Foggy Dew and more.

All activities, including tall ship tours, are free to the public as part of this sponsored community weekend. Sunset sails aboard the historic tall ship are available Saturday and Sunday during Sea Festival weekend from 5-7 pm (boarding at 4:30 pm). Tickets are $40 for adults (ages 13+) and $19 for juniors (4-12). Space is limited, and advance purchase is recommended. Adventure Sails!
Aboard the Spirit of Dana Point

Location: Santa Barbara Maritime Museum

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum and the crew of the Spirit of Dana Point invite the public to sail back in time, and around the Santa Barbara Channel aboard the beautiful revolutionary war era replica tall ship the Spirit of Dana Point. Hoist sail and cruise into a piece of Santa Barbara’s rich maritime history, while enjoying the beauty of the central coast.

Space is limited. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets will be available at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum Store. For tickets and/or information, please call 805-962-8404 ext. 115.

Join us on the 3rd Thursday of the month for an exciting ocean film featured in the 2007 Santa Barbara Ocean Film Festival. Featured films range from family friendly ocean films to heart-pounding ocean adventure films.

Into the Air: A Kiteboard Experience
Produced and Written by Marq Morrison

Into the Air: Shot on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, Into The Air: A Kiteboarding Experience is a superb feature-length documentary showcasing the lives of extreme athletes. The film contains extreme action, informative interviews, and portrays the lifestyle of men and women associated with today’s fastest growing extreme water sport. Into The Air features an incredibly talented and diverse group of riders. Viewers are exposed to their day-to-day life including background stories, tragedies, triumphs and reasons for pursuing this unique lifestyle.

Octopus Volcano
Directed by Sigurd Tesche

Stromboli, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, is a volcanic island erupting every 20 minutes. Life’s tough on its slopes and most animals perish in the outbursts. Most animals that is, except one - beneath the water’s surface, a healthy population of octopus is thriving on its treacherous slopes. This one hour high definition special explores this phenomenon and looks to find what the octopus has in order to survive where others can’t. How are they predicting the arrival of Mother Nature’s brute force?

Sink Faze
Directed by Grant Graves

Sink Faze: A freediving adventure. Freediving is the ultimate extreme sport where failure means unconsciousness. Join in, as athletes push their own physical and psychological limits while pursuing the ultimate test - World and National records. Follow the rise and fall of two world class athletes as they fight to reach their goals. One athlete arrives sick, wondering if he can dive, while another has a better start than they ever had before. Where they end up may surprise you. Special appearance made by David Blaine while training for his Drowned Alive stunt.

Every Saturday, the Museum offers a docent-guided tour of the Museum’s collection. Docent tours provide a unique opportunity to further explore the rich maritime heritage of the California Coast. Tours are free with Museum admission and begin at the admission desk at 2 pm.
