Discover
a treasure of experiences and help us to share and inform those who
have not been able to explore the sea themselves to experience the wonders
of the California coast. We hope that you too will be amazed and fascinated
by the wonders of California's nature, the beauty of the fish, and underwater
exhibits; and the rich, fascinating history of the California coast,
the men and their ships.
The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum offers its own in-house educational
programs ranging from tours to instructional classes. Complimentary
to this is our active participation in the Jason Program.

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is also dedicated to the education
of our local youth. The museum hosts JASON, an annual, interactive,
science-based, educational experience for local students and teachers.
Using satellite technology, JASON allows students to interact in real
time with scientists working in the field around the world.
JASON was founded in 1989 by Dr. Robert Ballard, the oceanographer and
explorer who discovered the wreck of the Titanic. Impressed by the interest
that students showed in his discovery, Dr. Ballard started JASON to
further their curiosity in scientific exploration. The museum provides
a local connection for students and the Santa Barbara marine environment.
