& Special Events In November & December

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) may have the solution to finding the perfect gifts and maritime events for this holiday season.   The Museum Store offers a large collection of unusual nautical and central-coast focused items, discounts, and special shopping events. New this year are tea towels, toddler and youth t-shirts, cotton tote bags, and onesies from Pedaling Paper & Art, all imprinted with a nautical theme. Shoppers can also find a wide selection of jewelry, books about sustainable living, nautical books, items and art. The series, “In the Waves,” includes reproductions of original watercolors and pen and ink drawings on colored glass bottle watermarks inspired by the central coast. And that is just the beginning! Events coming up in November and December include:

Through December 15, people who bring a new toy for this year’s Toys for Tots will be admitted to the museum for free (one admission/toy). Come visit the museum and know you are helping less fortunate children have a happy holiday experience.

Through December 24, all museum members will receive a 20% discount on any purchase in the Museum Store.

On Saturday evening, December 3, from 5-7pm, SBMM and the Museum Store will host a  special Kevin A. Short studio event featuring artist-led tours of The Peaceful Sea exhibit and the opportunity to purchase some of Kevin’s highly acclaimed artwork. 30-40 pieces will be available including posters, color sketches, copper drawings, and paintings varying in size from 4 x 6 inches to 36 x 48 inches.

On Sunday, December 11 from 10am-4pm, the SBMM Museum Store will host 13 artists from the Sea Glass and Ocean Arts Festival for their final Pop-Up Sale of 2022. This event, to be held on the museum’s patio, will feature sea glass and other nautical-inspired jewelry, prints, watercolors, and more for purchase. They are sure to offer special items that will appeal to everyone and every price range.

And on Sunday, December 11, beginning at 12:30 children of all ages will be able to enjoy frolicking in the snow on the City Pier. Then from 5:30-7, they should be sure to stay in the harbor and enjoy the annual Parade of Lights followed by fireworks!

About SBMM

Founded in 2000 inside the harbor’s historic Waterfront Center Building (formerly the Naval Reserve Building), the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum creates exhibitions and hands-on, educational experiences that celebrate more than 13,000 years of maritime history in our region—from Chumash culture to today’s surfing scenes and environmental movements. Nearly 8,000 square feet of gallery space showcase special presentations and changing displays culled from the museum’s artifact collection, all dedicated to instilling love and respect for our Santa Barbara Channel, for the people who make their living on its waters, and for the abundant marine life that calls these waters home.
