Sirius Luxury Sailboat Model

Description

Radio controlled full sailing model based on a Rhodes type motorsailer. Sails can be raised, lowered and trimmed under radio control. An electric motor powers the boat when sails are stowed. This model is Dwight’s second model of this type increasing the length by a foot and changing to a high aspect sail plan for better sailing performance. Construction is two piece fiberglass sides glassed together at center. Spars are laminated spruce. Decks are teak and mahogany on 1/8 birch plywood. Topsides are 3/16 aircraft mahogany plywood. Motor is an Astro 40 on 12v, Futaba speed control, 2:1 gear reduction and 2-1/2″ propeller. Power from two 6v gel cells. All sailing hardware is by Vortex Engineering of Santa Barbara. Paint is Dietzler automotive acrylic enamel.
