Tribute to Jean Schuyler

This past week, SBMM, and all of Santa Barbara, lost an amazing member of our community when Jean Schuyler passed away. Jean, along with her late husband Barry, were one of our four Keystone Founders here at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. Jean was a Past President of SBMM, and was extremely generous to SBMM, both with her finances and her time. SBMM would not be the Museum we are today without her support.

Jean also interviewed me back in January 2007, and it was with her blessing that I came aboard at SBMM. I have never met anyone as dedicated to our Museum as Jean was- and we were only one of the many local nonprofits she supported! Despite being slowed down by a stroke ten years ago, Jean continued to attend SBMM lectures, exhibit openings, and fundraisers. I have never met anyone who did more for their community than Jean Schuyler.

Fair winds and following seas Jean Schuyler. SBMM, and I personally, are forever grateful for having sailed with you. – Greg Gorga, SBMM’s Executive Director

Maybe there's a happy little waterfall happening over here. A little happy sunlight shining through there. Take your time. Speed will come later. God gave you this gift of imagination. Use it. Once you learn the technique, ohhh! Turn you loose on the world; you become a tiger. Work on one thing at a time.
