SBMM Presents: Geoff Alexander on Dos Pueblos Ranch and Its Vision for a Sustainable Future
The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) is proud to announce the next installment of its Maritime Distinguished Speaker Series: “Dos Pueblos Institute: A Vision for the Future” with Geoff Alexander, executive director of the Dos Pueblos Institute. This event will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. and will include a pre-lecture members only reception from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The cost is free for SBMM Navigators Circle members; $10 for all other members; and $20 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the link below or by calling (805) 456-8750.
This enlightening presentation will explore the unique role of Dos Pueblos Ranch, a site rich in human history and environmental significance. From its earliest inhabitants and its pivotal role during Spanish and Mexican colonial rule to its history as a cautionary tale of extractive agricultural practices, Dos Pueblos Ranch offers profound lessons for our relationship with the land. Geoff Alexander will share a bold vision for the future—one that confronts inherited challenges and redefines sustainable approaches to resources, education, and the environment.
“Dos Pueblos Ranch represents a unique and compelling intersection of history, environment, and education,” said SBMM Education Coordinator Jason Statucki. “This lecture offers our community a chance to reflect on how the lessons of the past can inspire a more sustainable future.”
SBMM Director of Education Lis Perry, added, “As educators, we are thrilled to highlight this important conversation about stewardship and resource management. It aligns perfectly with SBMM’s mission to connect people to the wonders of our maritime heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations.”
