THE PEACEFUL SEA: PAINTINGS BY KEVIN A. SHORT
August 11 - December 31
SBMM proudly presents The Peaceful Sea, an exhibition featuring more than 30 ocean-themed paintings by contemporary artist Kevin A. Short. Raised in Santa Barbara, Short began his art career by drawing on leftover butcher paper in the middle of the kitchen floor, and he went on to formally study painting at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Now shown and collected by art museums nationwide, his landscape paintings are among the most admired contemporary observations of the Pacific Coast and its subcultures.
On display August 11 through December 31, 2022
This curated selection of Short’s work—depicted in his signature style of bold, exuberant brushstrokes and vivid color—celebrates the artist’s longstanding interest in coastal life, offering an intelligent, impressionistic, and very personal take on the beauty of the ocean.
“There is magnetism in looking at glare and the effects of sunlight [on water]—something magical and calming that makes our troubles seem smaller and our thinking become clearer.”—Kevin A. Short
The Peaceful Sea: Paintings by Kevin A. Short is generously sponsored by Mimi Michaelis, June G. Outhwaite Charitable Trust, the Alice Tweed Tuohy Foundation, and the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation. The opening reception is sponsored by the American Riviera Bank.
